Home Hair Tips for Quarantine

Hello Gorgeous.

How are you doing? I miss seeing you all in the midst of all the craziness going on in our world. As we experience physical distancing and a new normal, I know you may not be feeling as gorgeous these days, so I wanted to share some home hair tips!

And if you need more hair products, the salon can keep you stocked! We’re offering FREE shipping! Just click this link to order and if you need recommendations you can email me or text 615-517-7690 & I’m happy to help you decide what’s best for your hair!

Tip #1 – Use root powder NOT box dye

unnamed.jpgIf your new growth is driving you crazy it can be tempting to use a quick fix box dye from the store. The problem is these box dyes do not timageake into account your natural color, they include harsher chemicals, and any mistakes can cause a much more difficult and expensive color correction afterwards. It’s just not worth it!! I have two COLOR WOW Root Cover Up - Light Brownrecommendations you can try! Color Wow Root Cover Up (sold through online retailers), or Style Edit Root Powder or Spray which is sold through my salon with free shipping by clicking this link!  It’s a powder and brush (similar to eyeshadow) that brushes nicely onto your roots without the mess and splotches a spray can sometimes cause. If you’re unsure what color to choose, let me know and I can help!

Tip #2 – Wear hair accessories

imageIt’s springtime and although we may not be out and about as much as we’d like to be, why not still put some fun accessories in your hair to jazz it up a bit to not only hide your need for a hair appointment, but to also bring some bright colors, sparkles or to make that daily ponytail or messy bun have some variety?

Tip #3 – Give your hair some time to rest & repair

Now is a great time to be giving your hair a break and giving it Hair Repair Mask | Davinessome love by using less heat from a blowdryer, flat iron, or curling iron and by doing conditioning masks at home! Since you may not be styling your hair every day, think of it as a break for your hair (and yourself!). And when you’re wandering around the house or watching Netflix, put on a conditioning mask like Davines Nou Nou and allow it to sit on your hair for a bit before rinsing. Better yet, give yourself a home spa moment and lay down with a hot towel or take a warm bath. You deserve it!

Hope you can find some inspiration in these quick tips and I hope to be back in the salon with you very soon!!

Summer hair care!

Hello there! Since May is the month full of school ending, graduations, Mothers day, and the beginning of SUMMER, I thought chat a bit about the best ways to care for your hair in the heat, sunshine and those lovely pool days!

IMG_1735.JPGChlorine/Salt Water:  It’s no secret, chlorine and salt water can strip your color over time or cause it to feel dry. It’s best to rinse your hair immediately after being in the pool or ocean so the chemicals or salt don’t stay or dry into your hair for long. Using a color preserving shampoo & conditioner like Minu (by Davines) or Angel Wash (by Kevin Murphy) is ideal and a weekly masque will help maintain health.

Color fading from the sun:   If the sun is powerful enough to burn your skin, then yes it can lighten your hair and/or strip your hair color. Wear hats as often as you can to protect the color or make an appointment for a color gloss/refresher! A gloss/toner/glaze (stylists often call them by different names) is a quick & easy way to add shine back into the hair and/or tone your color back to where you want it! They can be added on to a cut or color service or be done on their own!

Must-Have of the Month: Sea Salt Spray & Hair Resort

Want that back from the beach all day hair?? There’s just something about that salty air hair for summer that we love. But you dont have to go to a beach to get it!

Davines Sea Salt Spray or Kevin Murphy Hair Resort Spray give you that beachy texture that you can scrunch right in and air dry or blow dry. Perfect for summer day or night. You can purchase them at Fresh Salon!

5 Spring Trends I Love

Hey there! Michelle Joy here. I’m so excited to be sharing tips, tricks, and trends each month through the Fresh Salon email list AND right here on my blog so you’ll be ahead of the crowd! I love feedback so let me know what you like, what you’d like to see me cover, any questions you may have, or if you’d like to be added to the email list! Today I’m  sharing Spring trends… below are 5 of my favs! 🙂 Enjoy!

5 Spring Trends I Love

1. Mid length cuts

Mid-length hair isn’t going anywhere this season. Whether you opt for collar bone, at or right above the shoulder, with a blunt edge or textured shag, this cut is sure to keep you on trend for Spring!

2. Deep side part

If you don’t want to change your cut, opt for a deep side part to switch up your style! Tuck the less prominent side behind your ear, add some wave if desired and you’re good to go!

3. Face Framing Balayage

Balayage (aka hair painting) creates a beautiful melted color that requires less maintenance. Your stylist can create accents around your face exactly where you need them and give you a pop of brightness for the Spring!

4. Shadow Root

A lot of celebs are opting for brighter hair but not giving up their darker roots.

Yay for lower maintenence, this trend blends the best of both worlds by softening the root into a brighter color giving you more longevity in your color.

5. Braids

We all know this TN weather comes with high humidity, so why not pull it back or to the side with a boho braid. Whether it’s a three strand, fishtail, french, or a combination of all the above, a braid keeps your look trendy and effortless heading into warmer temps. Not sure how to braid? We may offer a basic braiding class soon, if you’re interested let us know & we’ll make sure to keep you in the loop!

Let me begin by saying this stuff smells SOO GOOD! That’s reason enough for us to use it all the time. AND right now if you buy 2 Davines products you can get a travel size free!!

Why use it? Oi Milk is a multi-use spray that detangles, softens, controls frizz and adds shine for any hair type.

How do I use it? Shake it up really well before use, spray it mostly on the ends with a spray or two on top, comb through and style as desired!

5 Ways to show your hair some LOVE!

Hello Gorgeous.

Let’s talk about love for a minute…but I’m no expert on love in relationships, so let’s go with love for HAIR!! I always say hair is our best accessory cause we wear it every day. Investing in your hair has benefits not only externally but also internally by making you feel more confident, beautiful, & relaxed! So let’s give it a little extra love!

There are SO many things I could recommend for healthier, happier hair, but I’ll keep it simple and talk about 5 of my top recommendations!

5 ways to show your hair some love

1. Heat protection
Let’s face it, we live in a world of hair dryers, flat irons & curling irons. And I love it! I curl my hair almost every single day. But all of that heat can do damage to your hair over time. Using a simple heat protection spray can protect your hair up to 450 degrees and prevent.a lot of potential damage. My favorite to use is Davines Melu Shield. Just spray it in your damp hair, blow or air dry and you’re good to go until your next wash! Easy peasy.2. Wash your hair less
Washing your hair daily can strip it of it’s natural oils which can cause dryness OR increased oiliness as your hair fights to produce more and more to keep up. It can also strip or fade your hair color faster. Washing between 2-5 days is ideal and don’t be afraid to let dry shampoo be your best friend to stretch out washes even further! I do it all the time!! (just ask me at your next appointment and I’ll share my favorite kinds).

3. In-salon or at-home treatments
If your hair is going through a dry spell or feels damaged in any way, in-salon or at-home treatments can bring new life to your hair. In salon treamtments can do wonders with highly concentrated ingredients that you can’t get off the shelf. If you prefer something to take home, I can recommend a weekly masque that will deeply nourish your hair that’s also great for maintenance!

4. Consistent hair appointments
Even if you’re growing out your hair, getting a trim no longer than 6-12 weeks apart is extremely beneficial. Hair is like thread where strings are woven together. Once they start to fray on the ends, they begin to split up farther and farther. Hair acts the same way. When you’re trimming those frayed edges consistently, you avoid more splitting, allowing for consistent growth. As for color? The longer your wait the more your roots will grow out and the more work & money it may be to maintain your desired look. Generally plan to book your color apps between 4-8 weeks. Consistency is key!

5. Use salon quality products without silicones
Occasionally I see new clients in the salon with a waxy build up on the hair. Typically this means they’ve been using off the shelf, drugstore brands that are full of silicones that over time create a coating on the hair. Yes, the buildup can be stripped out with a clarifying shampoo, but why not avoid it by using quality products that are concentrated and last even longer than a drugstore bottle. This ultimately saves you money, protects your hair, and extends your color.
